OKEANOS - KELP CAN!

In August 2026, Malizia Explorer welcomed ten young ocean changemakers from Waves of Action, the youth initiative of the Okeanos Foundation for the Sea, for a 20-day voyage north from Kiel to Bodø, Norway. Together, they explored one of the ocean’s most important coastal ecosystems: kelp forests.

Combining field research, scientific learning and storytelling, the participants investigated the ecological, social and economic importance of kelp, met researchers and coastal communities, and developed their own research and outreach projects. The mission brought the next generation of ocean leaders directly into the field, giving them the tools and knowledge to better understand and communicate the challenges facing our oceans.
