The Malizia Explorer has returned from Antarctica

After two intense months at the edge of the world, Malizia Explorer has returned to Ushuaia, marking the end of her third Antarctic expedition of the season and the conclusion of an extraordinary joint mission alongside Under The Pole and their vessel, the WHY.

This third leg of our Global Warning mission began three weeks ago in the Beagle Channel as lines were cast off in Ushuaia and it has now come full circle. Between departure and return: icebergs glowing, deep scientific dives beneath the surface, awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, and the quiet intensity of life onboard in one of the most remote places on Earth.

Over the past months, the expedition unfolded between some of the most breathtaking wildlife encounters on Earth. Humpback whales surfacing alongside the boat. Orcas hunting in the Drake waters. Penguins porpoising between floes. A leopard seal playing with our cameras. Moments of pure magic and powerful reminders of what is at stake.

With the seals noises in the background, scientific work and education programmes unfolded onboard…

Malizia Explorer provided logistical and operational support for Under The Pole’s deep diving operations as part of the DEEPLIFE programme, allowing researchers to explore and document fragile Marine Animal Forests in one of the least accessible regions of the planet. Beneath the surface, divers ventured into cold, dark waters to study ecosystems that remain largely unknown.

Life onboard was intense. Remote. Demanding. Every operation required coordination and resilience. Antarctica offers no shortcuts and no safety nets, only raw beauty and the constant reminder of how small we are in its vastness.

An extraordinary video now captures the full journey, from departure in Ushuaia, to life onboard, scientific dives, unforgettable wildlife moments, and the emotional return to port. It is a glimpse into what it truly means to explore, research, and live in one of the most remote places on Earth.

The Ice May Be Behind Us, The Mission Is Not

But while the vessel is back in port, but this is not an ending.

The mission continues in laboratories where samples will be analyzed.
In political forums where protection measures are debated.
In classrooms where curiosity is sparked.
In stories that travel far beyond the ice.

This expedition was about exploration.
It was about science.
It was about human resilience.

But above all, it was about responsibility.

Because while we are still discovering this unique ecosystem, we already know one thing with certainty:

It must be protected.
